Samantha Turns 2! Mickey Mouse Birthday Party

When my little girl turned two, we had a Mickey Mouse themed birthday party in Virginia.  I made a Mickey themed cake and some Mickey cupcakes.

The cake was easy enough -- bake a circular cake, decorate it half with black icing, half with red icing, and two marshmallows as the buttons.  Then add two cupcakes with black icing for the "ears."  Voila!

The cupcakes were easy too.  All you need are some Oreos -- the regular sized ones and the little bite-size ones.  Arrange them three to a cupcake and you've got some really cute themed cupcakes.  If you want Minnie ones instead, you could always add a pink bow.

Here's what Pinterest doesn't tell you:  don't decorate the cupcakes ahead of time.  Don't make them the day before (even hours before) and allow them to sit in a container until you serve them.  It doesn't matter how "airtight" the container is -- the Oreos will taste like crap if you make them ahead of time.  Put those Oreos on right before you serve them.  When I ate mine, I threw the Oreos in the trash.  Yuck!

My daughter looked adorable though :)
